More Barbel for the River Aire

We are pleased to announce that more Barbel have been stocked into the River Aire as part of the Environment Agencys river restocking programme. Last Week 3,000 Barbel were stocked in the river between Keighley, Bingley, Saltaire and Leeds.  The Bingley stretch recieved in excess of 500 fish, stocked at Myrtle Park, Bingley. The fish from the Environment Agency’s fish farm at Calverton in Nottinghamshire have been introduced for the 3rd time in recent years – with fish previously stocked now beginning to show on various local stretches to 3lb plus. Monster Canal Carp Snared

Michael Nuttall had a whopping Common Carp esitmated at 25lb from a Bingley Canal Stretch this week. He had previously caught the carp 3 years ago when its weight was 22lb. The carp was caught on a Bingley Canal Stretch – in Michael’s own words: ” I was fishing on pole that day. I had bagged  4 nice bream all around the 4 lb Mark and noticed carp moving around on the far bank so I set up a carp rod but only used a plummet as lead as I thought my bigger leads would spook them . Barbel Stocking Dec 2009

The River Aire has been stocked with Barbel last week – 500 Barbel were introduced to the River Aire at Myrtle Park, Bingley. Although the river condition was up at the time – it was not as bad as it has been during Novembers never ending rain. All the Barbel seemed to happliy swim off into the river and we are pleased to report that at the time there were no upturned bellies! The Barbel were 6-8 inches in length and about a year old.
