Fish Shelters at Coppice Pond

Shelter in position – “floatation device” to be removed.

A working party will be held at Coppice Pond on 30th December from 10 AM onwards. The aim of the day is to construct and position two further fish refuges.

In the absence of natural vegetation in the water, and after receiving expert advice from the Institute of Fisheries Management and the EA; the Club has decided to positon three fish shelters in the pond in order to provide fish with year round cover from predators and possible alternative spawning sites.

The refuges are based on commercially available products, but have been designed by the Club Chairman. Construction materials have been supplied by Bradford Metropolitan District Council.

An experimental working party was held earlier this month to try and construct and position a shelter. Despite adverse weather conditions and a difficult task, the brave souls who showed up managed admirably, and one professional looking refuge is now in place (there are some good photos from the day on the forum in the Picture Kiosk – thanks Flashphill).

It is planned to cover the shelters with pre planted coir roll in spring to provide further cover and give the shelters a more natural appearance.
