We have received sad news today that life member Clifford Bennett passed away last night, and we express our sympathy to all his family and friends. Clifford was a committee member and watcher from at least the early 1980’s, some of our older members may well remember having their books checked by him at Coppice Pond or Harden Dam. He was elected as Chairman at the 1987 AGM (replacing current President Bruce Howard), and retired from his post and committee at the 1991 AGM where he was awarded life membership. This years AGM will start at 8.00pm prompt on Tuesday 14th November 2017 at The Ryshworth Club, Crossflatts, Binlgley BD16 2HB All proposals must be submitted in writing to the club secretary by 31st October, along with details of the proposer and seconder. And claimers for the specimen fish trophy, should also submit their claims with supporting evidence by 31st October. The meeting will be followed with a pie & peas supper 🙂
We are increasingly concerned about reports of the abuse of club rules and of the river by club members at Wray Wood. We request all members to respect the rights of all landowners in the vicinity of club waters: Please observe access/fishing times, fishery limits and comply with ALL club rules/fishery byelaws whilst fishing. Members have reported (and removed) large amounts of litter which has obviously been left by overnight “anglers” in several locations on the venue. The Aire Rivers Trust latest clean up day will be this Sunday (11th June), any members who want to help out should meet with the group in the Bradford and Bingley Sports Club carpark at 10 am. Please bring work gloves and waders if you have them, the event should finish at 2pm but a tea break and rest period are promised.
Two things coming up 1st weekend in April at Coppice Pond! Saturday 1st April (no its not an April fool) At some point between 10am and 2pm a researcher from the University of Leeds will be there to take samples of sedimentation from the lake. Looking for fall out of volcanic ash originating from Iceland. Their small working party will be using an inflatable probably in the shallow end as they only want to take core samples to a depth of 50cm. Sunday 2nd April 10.00am. Work is continuing at Coppice pond to improve the bankside environment. In an effort to combat erosion from visitors and assist growth of vegetation, more fencing has been erected and shrubs planted. More work is yet to be done, Next work party is on Sunday 12th March, all welcome to attend and lend a hand from 10am onwards. More pictures are available in the gallery.
